New ICD-10 Implementation Guides from CMS Website

ICD-10 Implementation Guides in downloadable PDF files are newly available from CMS for small and medium practice providerslarge practice providerssmall hospitals, and payers. These guides are step-by-step resources for providers and payers looking for help with their ICD-10 transition no matter where they are in the transition process.

The ICD-10 Implementation Guides provide a complete overview of the importance of ICD-10 and how to prepare for the transition to the new codes. The transition process is broken down into phases: planning, communication and awareness, assessment, implementation, testing, and transition. Each phase is described in detail and includes steps tailored to your practice or organization type.

These are timely releases as most healthcare providers are finally turning toward the inevitability of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS implementation. CMS has confirmed that the October 1, 2014 deadline is real and not changing.

Moving forward with end-to-end testing will be a critical step. The HIMSS/WEDI ICD-10 National Pilot Testing Task Force participating organizations include Rex Health, Cleveland Clinic, Banner, BCBS, Wellpoint, AmeriHealth, 3M  and AHIMA, engaged to ensure end-to-end testing of ICD-10 can be accomplished and best practices identified over the next 12 months.

The guides are available on the CMS website along with other materials for providers and payers.
